Prayer against Hunger to St. Elijah, the Prophet of God

 

Every day after the noon meal I recite this Troparion [Tone 4] to the Prophet Elijah:

"An angel in the flesh, the foundation of Prophets, the second forerunner of the coming of Christ, O Elijah the glorious, from the angel food thou receiveth and the widow [of Sarept] nourisheth (supported) in times of famine, so be thyself also to us – who venerate thee – a gracious nourisher!"
